I would like to send a warm greeting to all Sprout students and their parents. My name is Tiev. I’m 34 years old and I come from the United States. I received my undergraduate and graduate education from the University of Louisville in the disciplines of Sports Medicine (BS) and Physiology (MS). I hold a CELTA teaching credential from the University of Cambridge ESOL and I will be graduating this summer with a second Masters degree in Education.
I have 8 years of experience teaching students whose ages range from elementary school through university level. I have also taught post-graduate adult and mature learners. I have lived in 6 different countries in the past 10 years and have visited over 30 countries as both a tourist and guest instructor. I appreciate the differences in learning styles that I have encountered over the course of my teaching career. It’s an honor to have lived in so many places around the
world and to have made so many friends with such diverse cultural backgrounds. Learning and sharing in this particular capacity has been a truly enriching experience for me.
In addition to teaching language and science, personal health has always been a passion of mine. I’m also a certified personal trainer, a massage therapist, and yoga instructor. I love to exercise and I enjoy outdoor recreation.
Being creative and artistically expressive are also qualities I value and encourage in others. I’ve been dancing professionally for over 20 years. Music, performance and art are my first love but I have found teaching and being involved in the lives of my students to be very rewarding in both a personal and professional sense. Teaching is as much an art as it is a science.
I also speak Spanish as a second language and I have recently begun studying Korean and Chinese. As a teacher, my goal is to facilitate expression and communication. Learning a second language should be fun and interesting, but not too stressful. I want students to feel comfortable with taking risks because I view mistakes not as failures, but as personal growth. I respect the process as much as the final product. I feel very fortunate to have been welcomed into the Sprout
community. I look forward to learning and sharing stories with each of the students.
